POET’S BIRTHDAY

Here is a poem I wrote some years back at a change-of-decade birthday. It acknowledges a particular effect of growing older upon this writer, and I suspect it may also apply to many others, whether they write poetry or prose.

POET’S BIRTHDAY

When squeezed within the tentacles of youth,

I darted out free verse, pursuing time.

Now revolutions mellow into truth,

And age has made me less adverse to rhyme.
